Tan Choon SHian, Chief Executive, Workforce Singapore 

Guest of Honour

Choon Shian joined WSG in October 2016 after serving as Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Polytechnic.  

Prior to his Singapore Polytechnic appointment, Choon Shian was the Deputy Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). During his time at EDB, he held various diplomatic and leadership roles in Singapore and Japan, including First Secretary (Industry) of the Singapore Embassy in Japan and led various EDB divisions including Asia Pacific Operations, Electronics and Precision Engineering Cluster, Planning and Policy, Marketing Communications and Knowledge Management.

Whilst at EDB, he was seconded for a year to the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) as Director, Corporate Development.

Choon Shian graduated as a valedictorian from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor of Science (Information Science) in 1992. He was a Sloan Fellow at Stanford University, USA, where he received a Master of Science in Management in 2000. He completed his Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD in 2011.

Gillian Woo, Acting Director, Partners and Operations Division, Workforce Singapore

Judge

Gillian was involved in several key initiatives at WSG to improve the employment facilitation assistance to Singaporeans, such as the conceptualisation of the eCareers Transformation Plan which resulted in the development of the MyCareersFuture.sg digital service, organisation of virtual career fairs and hosting of webinars. Gillian was also involved in the appointment of two overseas career matching providers to complement the career matching services offered to Singaporeans in their career planning, and the roll-out of Adapt and Grow initiatives such as the Careers Support Programme and the Career Trial. She was also instrumental in the localisation and recruitment efforts for the two Integrated Resorts, working closely with Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa during the opening phase to assist them in their manpower development and training needs.

Prior to joining WSG, Gillian’s experience was predominately in the Tourism and Hospitality industries, primarily responsible for the business development and sales and marketing of new growth markets in Asia and the Australasia region.  

Gillian enjoys influencing performance of her team by encouraging them to constantly innovate with new ideas, and working with them to always strive to do the best of their abilities.

Daniel Chong, Assistant Director, Partners and Operations Division, Workforce Singapore

Daniel Chong has more than 10 years Digital Marketing experience across the Asia Pacific region. Currently at WSG with the mandate to own, drive and manage the integrated content calendar for all marketing/editorial content.

He is also concurrently leading the development of Singapore government’s national jobs portal MyCareersFuture.sg.

Steven Koh, Deputy Director, Government Digital Services, GovTech

Judge

Steven has more than 16 years experience in building high volume, low latency eCommerce and Engineering Systems across financial sector, supply-chain and high-tech industry. He has rotated across various roles such as DevOps, software engineer, tech lead and product manager. Steven is the Tribe Lead for Agile Consulting and Engineering in GovTech - Government Digital Services.

Jason NG, Employment Assistance, Director

Judge

Jason oversees a team of dedicated officers who work towards rebuilding the lives of ex-offenders by helping them enhance their employability potential. SCORE administers market-relevant skills upgrading courses and provides job matching services to offenders prior to their release. SCORE Job Coaches also regularly engage ex-offenders through job coaching to help them develop simple behavioural goals to tackle adaptation challenges and sustain retention at work. SCORE also actively engages Trade Associations and employers to help increase job opportunities for ex-offenders through an available jobs database.

Stacie Chan, Global Product Partnerships, Google Jobs

Judge and Speaker

Stacie Chan leads Search Partnerships for the Asia Pacific region at Google. In this role, she helped launch the Job Search feature in Singapore on 2 Aug. The feature’s goal is to connect job seekers with more relevant opportunities from a wide array of job boards and ATSs across the ecosystem. In her Partnerships role, she works with external companies to beta test and help launch new products on Search and the Google Assistant in Southeast Asia. Prior to moving to Singapore in April, Stacie was working on the Search Partnerships team, based in Mountain View, California.

Though the unemployment rate in Singapore is comparatively low, Stacie saw the need to create a better Job Search experience for Singaporeans, many of whom are constantly seeking more challenging employment opportunities. One of the key launch partners of the Google Job Search feature was Workforce Singapore. She was very impressed with their innovative approach to empower and employ Singaporeans, and is eager to work towards creative solutions around job matching, labor up-skilling, and employer hiring practices.

Prior to Google, Stacie was a journalist based in Silicon Valley and Southern California covering local issues ranging from technology to politics to education. She worked for Aol’s news start-up: Patch.com, managing a team of 10 reporters. Stacie and her team reported on how governments and businesses were leveraging technology to make advances in various industries. Just one year after launching, Patch.com won Best Online News Site from the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club. Before becoming a journalist, Stacie had a brief stint as an actress in Southern California. She has a Bachelor's degree in Communication, and Masters degree in Journalism from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

Gary Gan, Co-Founder, JobKred

Speaker

Gary is an experienced entrepreneur and marketer, involved in the startup of several successful companies across a broad spectrum of industries.

He is currently co-founder of JobKred, a career development platform that uses AI and data science to help people close their skills gaps and navigate the future of work. He has worked with World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Qatar Foundation and other organizations on education, skills development, talent management and workforce planning.

Gary has been invited to speak at conferences such as Asian Development Bank’s Skills Forum 2017, NTUC’s Shaping Careers and Channel NewsAsia Singapore Tonight, on entrepreneurship, startups and the future of work.

Jaya Dass, Country Director, Randstad

Jaya Dass joined Randstad in 2008, bringing with her 10 years' prior experience in business development and human resources, in addition to working in Australia. Equipped with strong business acumen drawn from her experience operating a business in security and audit, Jaya was fast-tracked from being a consultant to providing stewardship for a team of 120 consultants across eight divisions in addition to the Randstad corporate support department.

In October 2015, Jaya was promoted to Country Director for Randstad Singapore with the remit to further develop and grow the business. Jaya holds a Master in Commerce and a Bachelor in Finance. She is a member of the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI), the Marketing Institute of Singapore (MIS), and the accredited WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA).

Jordan Dea-Mattson, Site Director, Indeed.com

Jordan Dea-Mattson is a 35 year veteran of high tech. He wrote the first code for which he was paid in 1981 and has been involved in software development and engineering ever since. He has seen more technologies, programming languages, and technology fads come and go than he can keep track of, which has required him to embrace a process of continual learning, personal development, and reinvention.

Jordan has worked at Apple (he was present at and involved in the events of the day Steve Jobs returned following the purchase of NeXT by Apple), Adobe Systems, Yahoo, and a number of Silicon Valley startups including Ooyala and Numenta. After over 30 years in Silicon Valley, he has relocated to Singapore where he has been the VP of Engineering at TradeGecko and Carousell. He is currently Site Director, Singapore for Indeed.COM, the world’s largest job site.

His personal passion is building and growing the software engineering and startup ecosystems in Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia. He invests significant time and energy mentoring students and young entrepreneurs in Singapore, as well as advising startups.  In his free time, he trains for and competes in triathlons.

A certified behavioral career counsellor with a Masters in Counselling, Jesmin has more than 20 years of varied corporate experience in recruitment, business development, project, and operations management.

As Head of Delivery, her key focus is to implement and deliver a comprehensive service delivery model in outplacement. Jesmin enjoys mentoring and coaching individuals to rediscover possibilities and harness their potential to obtain career satisfaction. Jesmin believes in motivating through positive thinking, encouraging, and supporting individuals through the development of career plans whilst additionally offering insight into the recruitment and selection process.

Martin Tan, Executive Director, The Majurity Trust

Martin Tan is the Executive Director of The Majurity Trust Ltd, a philanthropic organisation with social impact programmes and platforms to create, invest and advance collaborative causes and activities that build a thriving and sustainable community for all in Singapore. He was formerly the Executive Director of Institute for Societal Leadership and Co-Founder of Halogen Foundation Singapore.

Martin works with leaders in the public, private and people sector in over 14 countries including Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, United Kingdom and the United States. For his contributions to Singapore and the region, Martin was awarded The Outstanding Young Person Award in 2008 in Singapore, inducted as a Fellow of Asia 21, as part of Asia Society New York in 2011 and was conferred the Singapore Youth Award, Singapore’s highest accolade for youth in 2013.

Simon Tan, Employer Servicing Manager, Ingeus

With more than 20 years’ experience in recruitment and business development, Simon has been providing consultative staffing solutions to organizations. He has served corporates like Singapore Grand Prix, Singtel and Coca Cola. His passion for the recruitment arena has driven him to building great relationship with both his clients and candidates.

Identifying that in recent years, Singapore’s workforce is aging, PMETs getting to be re-employed is a growing challenge. In finding more meaning in his career, Simon decided to switch his focus to a mission that will benefit Singaporeans/PR. Thus in 2017, he joined a UK MNC with decades of society building through coaching and job placements, Ingeus Pte Ltd.  

Ingeus Pte Ltd, a career matching provider of Workforce Singapore (WSG), aims to provide high-quality services to create a positive change to the Singapore labour market. Singapore is the second branch in Asia and 10th branch globally for Ingeus.

Currently playing a major role in Ingeus Pte Ltd, Simon is championing the cause of ensuring that unemployed PMETs are matched with esteemed organisations. Simon’s portfolio includes ensuring that unemployed PMETs have gone through their inhouse Career Accelerator Programme, partnering by sharing best practices with corporate customers and matching jobseekers in the restarting of their career journey.
